Why habitat surveys?

Potential issues

The system is walked and the habitat recorded in order to know the available area and what type of habitat is present (fry, parr, adult). During this survey any issues restricting fish populations are noted, and recommendations made to help improve the habitat. These detailed Catchment Managment Plans are then given to the proprietors to act on as they see fit.

Reports on each of the catchments surveyed are available from the Biologist.

  • Man-made barriers
  • Erosion
  • Pollution

Potential solutions

  • Plant trees
  • Fence
  • Stabilise banks with soft engineering
  • Address pollution issues
