Why not try "Open Office" - the word processor reads Microsoft Word files; the spreadsheet reads Microsoft Excel files.

They can also be saved in the original format. And it's FREE...

This is OK if you're on broadband (it's a 65mb file) but if you're on a dial-up connection it could take 10 hours to download.
